As our first year comes to a close, we have a lot to be proud of. And while we invite you to take a look at our 2014 accomplishments here, we want to take this time to share a moment of clairvoyance with you as we look ahead to what’s next for Othello.

Alright, so we don’t have a crystal ball but, we can tell you that 2015 will bring big changes to Othello:

• Four new developments are in planning stages and will come online between 2015-2017. One low-income and three market rate housing developments will provide more than 1,000 new apartments and up to 50,000 square feet of retail space. One developer has completed design review and is progressing to pre-development. The other three are in early design phases. In 2015 we will connect you, your ideas, or your business to these developers.

• We’re hosting more opportunities for you to shape Othello. We’ll be posting, on this very blog, community forums and design review meetings where your input will help the developers plan their sites. Whether you’re a morning walker seeking broader sidewalks or a business owner looking to influence the shape and size of planned retail space, you’re invited to connect with the developers to design Othello. Sign up to receive our announcements!

• It’s the 5th anniversary of Plate of Nations! Local venues offer global menus at incredible prices during this annual feast in late March-early April. Prepare your palate for tastes from around the world—Chile Rellenos at Huarachitos, Ethiopian injera at Café Ibex, or Mediterranean and East African fusion at Bananas Grill, plus many more. Get your passports ready and start collecting stamps at participating restaurants this March!

• How many ways can you say “hello”? We’ve translated “hello” into 40 languages, yes 4-0, most commonly spoken at Othello and will be creating banners in each language to display along MLK. Things are looking up at Othello, and you should too this summer when the banners will be installed.

Want to tell us how many languages you can say “hello” in? Have an event in Othello that you’d like to announce? Interested in attending a design review? Drop us a line or say “hello” here.
